Mobile air conditioner to wear
Athletes and workers exposed to high temperatures are adopting active functional cooling clothing. These garments, made with innovative materials, provide customizable evaporative cooling that lasts for hours. Brands like E.COOLINE and IDENIXX use BASF’s superabsorbent nonwoven fabric to create a wearable, mobile air conditioning system that effectively supports the body’s natural cooling process.
How does this move sustainability forward?
BASF’s certification and verification process tracks specific environmental measures for each individual e3 grower. These include irrigation water use and water quality; pesticide management and usage; soil conservation and fertility management; greenhouse gas reduction; energy use and conservation; worker health and safety; identify preservation; and soil carbon. This cutting-edge technology offers clothing brands the ability to measure, rather than eyeball, the relative carbon footprint of a textile, and third-party verification ensures the authenticity of sustainably grown cotton.

BASF and Inditex move forward in sustainability. BASF and Zara have achieved a sustainability breakthrough in the textile industry with the launch of loopamid®, a 100% textile waste-derived polyamide 6 (nylon 6). BASF’s innovative circular solution enables nylon garments made entirely from textile waste. Zara has utilized loopamid to create a jacket, available globally, designed for full recyclability, with every component—fabrics, buttons, padding, hooks, loops, and zippers—made from loopamid.Polyamide 6, or nylon 6, is a versatile synthetic polymer valued for its strong mechanical properties. BASF, a leading producer of nylon 6 and its precursors, operates manufacturing facilities across Europe, Asia, and North America.“This milestone marks a significant step toward circularity in fashion,” said Ramkumar Dhruva, president of BASF’s Monomers division. “Loopamid has the potential to transform the PA6 market. We’re scaling up to meet customer demand, and our collaboration with Inditex on this capsule jacket demonstrates that circularity is achievable. We’re committed to advancing the sustainable transformation of the textile industry.”

What does the future look like?
BASF is working with different brands and textile mills to create demand for e3 sustainable cotton to help meet the 2025 Sustainable Cotton Challenge. With only 19 percent of the world’s cotton currently classified as sustainable, the Challenge’s goal is for more than 50 percent of the world’s cotton to be grown with more sustainable methods by 2025. With BASF’s innovative and original e3 sustainable cotton traceability program, we’re one step closer to realizing this goal. For more information, click here..
